With the use of the Oxford 954 Chip Technology You're getting an extremely versatile PCI to Quad Port Serial converter. It supports DOS / Linux / Windows. Supports RS-232. This is a must for the serial device user!
The PCI to Quad Port serial converter is an industrial strength PCI host controller that supports RS-232 on DOS, Linux and Windows operating systems. This PCI to Serial converter host is a high performance serial port adapter that is specially designed using Oxford 954 chips to connect and output to your serial devices. The Quad Port PCI Host is a 32 bit card that is fully compliant with PCI specification Rev. 3.0 and PCI Power Management Specifications 1.1 |
How the PCI Quad Port Serial RS232 Host Card works:
The PCI QUAD-Port to Serial Host Card allows the use of multiple rs232 serial devices via the PCI Host interface. The PCI Quad-Port to Serial series adapter offers flexibility of connections and simultaneous usage of all ports at any one time. To install the device on your computer for the first time, first install the PCI Host controller into the PC, connect the serial cable to the PCI Adapter and power up the PC. Using the new hardware wizard, let Windows automatically install the hardware drivers which it will grab from the driver disk already in your drive. You will see the new hardware wizard several times as it must install the driver for each of the rs-232 serial ports to function properly with the PCI Quad Port to Serial Adapter. You will see that the PCI Communications Port drivers will be installed for each new hardware found. During the installation Windows will ask if you want to continue installing the converter drivers, click continue to finish the install. Shown above right, the device manager COM ports through the PCI Host Interface.

Testing for installation of you PCMCIA Quad Port Serial Adapter in the device manager:
To make sure your devices have been installed, take a look in your device manager for the drivers. The image on the left shows all devices used in the testing. The device manager is seeing the devices through the PCI Quad Port to serial adapter. All devices performed as they should through the PCI Serial Multi-Port adapter. If the devices you connect are not present, simply refresh your device manager by scanning for hardware changes. The image on the left is an example of what you may see in your device manager when you connect your serial devices.
