How the USB Serial RS232 converter works
The USB Serial RS232 converter allows the use and operation of an additional serial device via USB control. The USB Serial port converter is totally self powered by the usb port it's connected to. To install the device on your computer, first insert the converter driver CD into your CD-ROM drive and install the drivers. After the drivers have been installed, connect the USB to rs232 serial converter to your USB Port. The new hardware wizard in Windows after connecting the USB Serial rs232 serial converter to the USB port should automatically recognize the new hardware. You will see that the prolific USB serial bridge drivers will be installed and hardware found. If the device is not in your device manager after install, select scan for hardware changes to refresh the device manager.
NOTE: If for some reason the rs232 converter is not recognized after connection, try rebooting your PC or laptop or manually adding the hardware through Add New Hardware Wizard.

Testing the USB Serial converter
During testing of the USB Serial RS-232 Converter a serial modem was used as seen in the images above. Once the device is connected to the USB Serial converter, Windows add hardware wizard will find your hardware through the serial port, this should happen automatically in Windows XP. You may need to install the drivers for those particular items your are connecting. |
To make sure your devices have been installed, take a look in your device manager for the drivers. The image on the left shows all devices used in the testing. The device manager is seeing the devices through the USB Serial RS-232 Converter. The modem performed as it should through the USB Serial Port.
